    • Who can submit to JMSG?
      • Currently, we only accept submissions from medical students studying at NUI Galway.

 

    • How do I become an author?
      • As an author, a student must have contributed significantly to the research content of their paper. For further requirements, please refer to Submissions section.

 

    • I’m a medical student at NUIG, but conducted my research at a different university; am I allowed to publish my research work in the JMSG?
      • Yes you can! Anyone registered as a medical student at NUIG in the academic term when the research was conducted is eligible to publish in JMSG. Do note that permission from the research supervisor is required.

 

    • I’m not a medical student at NUIG, but I conducted my research at NUIG; am I allowed to publish my research work in JMSG?
      • This will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Please contact editors@jmsgalway.com if you are interested.

 

    • I’m not a medical student and I conducted my research outside NUIG; am I allowed to publish my research work in JMSG?
      • Thank you for your interest in JMSG. Currently we are only accepting work from medical students.

 

    • What criteria are used for selecting submissions?
      • There are different criteria for submitting abstracts, case reports and other medically relevant work. Please visit our submissions page for more details.

 

    • What is the word limit for submissions?
      • A word limit is mandatory for all submissions. Please visit the guidelines for each submission type for more information.

 

    • When is the deadline for the submission of research abstracts/case reports/review articles/elective experiences?
      • The deadline for submissions varies from year to year. Please check for updates on our homepage or submissions page.

 

    • What referencing format should be used for citations?
      • JMSG only accepts the Vancouver style of referencing. Please see the submissions section for more details.

 

    • What else can I submit aside from research abstracts?
      • Currently JMSG supports elective experiences, case reports, review articles, and photographs. We will also be accepting pieces for a competition that will soon be announced. In the future, we plan to accept full manuscripts, opinion pieces, and other medically relevant works. For more information see the submissions section.

 

    • Who decides which articles will be published?
      • A team of selected NUIG medical students and staff delegates sitting the editorial board thoroughly review all submitted work and decide collectively on which articles are to be published. The editorial board follows a specific marking scheme, which ensures that the selected papers demonstrate well-conducted research and insightful analysis at the undergraduate level.

 

    • How and when can I know if my manuscript has been selected to be published in JMSG?
      • After submission, you will receive an email from JMSG staff once your paper has been selected for publication. This may take a few weeks.

 

    • Can I republish my research abstract elsewhere?
      • Yes, JMSG presents no barrier to the publication of work elsewhere.

 

    • When will the JMSG be published?
      • The JMSG aims to be published in Spring of each year.

 

    • How can I get a copy of JMSG? Will it be free?
      • Yes, the journal is free and available to NUIG medical students and UHG staff. You can obtain hard copies of JMSG at the CSI and affiliated teaching academies. In addition, the journal will be accessible online in PDF and HTML format. Please visit the archive for past issues.

 

    • Are staff members of JMSG eligible to submit a research paper to JMSG?
      • Yes, all staff members except the review board managers are allowed to submit their papers to JMSG. The managers will ensure that there is no conflict of interest throughout the review process.

 

  • Who supports JMSG?
